The Alpine A110 isn’t long for this world, but you can be sure it’s not going out quietly. Following on from the A110R track special road car, Alpine has decided to send the A110 to Pikes Peak, with some serious upgrades for the bespoke Hillclimber.

It’s billed as the most extreme A110 ever, and to look at, we fully believe them. In true Pikes tradition, it’s very much an A110 with a massive splitter and a massive double wing. Obviously that sounds pretty reductive but these are the elements that really leap out. There’s also an airbox feeding the highly-upgraded engine, though there are no specifics on what's been done. This 950kg, 500PS monster is a collaboration between Alpine and Signatech and is a one-off to take on the 19.93km, 156-corner course.

"The A110 Pikes Peak brings out the wildest side of this iconic car,” said Raphael Linari, Alpine Chief Designer.

“It is agile and light by design, but with its specific aerodynamics and extreme proportions, it has become a genuine racing beast. This legendary event was an endless source of inspiration to push our creativity and enhance the A110 while integrating the constraints associated with performance.

“This project was completed in a decidedly short timeframe, thanks to the close collaboration with Signatech's technical teams. We look forward to seeing our creation challenge the American powerhouses on their home turf.”

Testing began with some initial runs at Lurcy-Lévis on 25th and 26th April, with final configuration testing beginning this week with the man set to pilot the A110 Pikes Peak, Raphael Astier. His CV includes four runs at Pikes Peak, alongside an A110 Rally FIA R-GT Cup win last year.

“The Alpine A110 Pikes Peak met all its initial targets, which is a remarkable feat in such a short time,” said Francois Letort, Alpine A110 Pikes Peak Project Manager.

“We are thus proud to unveil a spectacular model, both visually and in terms of its performance. All of us look forward to the legendary challenge that awaits us!"
