The trailer is all in-game 4K footage and shows a variety of cars, from modern GT racers to snarling classic muscle cars, Formula Drift machines and historic F1. We see Spa, Laguna Seca, the return of fan-favourite Maple Valley, among other circuits.
In a separate showcase video, GM of Forza Motorsport Dan Greenawalt made some big claims, calling the pending instalment “the most technically advanced racing game ever made”.
The driving experience is claimed to be fully overhauled with a 48x improvement in the physics simulation over what’s come before. A big deal is made of the advanced time progression, which informs changes in grip levels, with surface temperatures changing as time passes. Tracks also ‘rubber in’ over the course of a race as in real life, while an advanced weather system will also have a bearing on track conditions. Tyre and fuel management with multiple tyre compounds join as highly-requested features for more serious racers, while advanced tuning and setup options will be further developed for the new title too.
Forza has always been lauded for its high detail and photorealism and they’re taking full advantage of the new Xbox consoles for the reboot. Full 4k and raytracing complements cars and environments captured in higher fidelity than ever before. These are shown in spectacular fashion as the camera glides over a Ginetta prototype racer in the pits with its rear clam off, with the crinkles in the gold heat wrap and the imperfections in the surfacing on the carbon airbox clear as if the car were in front of you. Car damage has also been dramatically improved for the new game, with scratch-by-scratch directional damage with in-detail dirt buildup.
Creative Director for Turn 10 Chris Esaki sums up the advances made in the new game, saying: “We believe that the accuracy of our overhauled physics, the beauty of our cars and tracks, our new dynamic time of day, advanced car damage and real-time raytracing on track, lead to a generational leap in immersion”.
