Forza Motorsport gets long-awaited release date | FOS Future Lab

13th June 2023

We’ve quite literally been waiting years for the next Forza Motorsport. By the time the new game hits shelves and Xbox Game Pass on 10th October, it will have been a full six years since Forza Motorsport 7 released, to a mixed response. It’s that frosty reception that has forced Turn 10 to take a moment to rethink the previous rinse-repeat-and-ruin approach and rejuvenate the franchise. Finally, we’ll soon be able to sample the fruits of their labours.

The game is set to trade heavily on all that has been excellent about the franchise in the past, with a 500-strong car list – including, importantly, 100 cars that are all-new to the series – over 800 unique upgrades, real-time ray tracing, rejuvenated physics and re-imagined vehicle destruction. The track models will be bang up-to-date, captured with the latest greatest tech, while the environments and cars will be experienced with a variable weather system and day-night cycle.

Forza’s issues with Motorsport 7 were mostly in bad sounds, an infuriating UI and dodgy car models. We’re hoping these are points that have been addressed, with the User Interface most likely to have experienced a major overhaul. Certainly, in the gameplay trailer, it looks a lot cleaner, showing off the cars better and adding more features.

Review: Forza Horizon 5

25th November 2021

Speaking of the trailer, we see plenty of track action with exclusive new cars, including the Corvette E-Ray and Cadillac V Series R LMDh car we just watched compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Also revealed as one of the all-new cars is the new Lamborghini Revuelto, which has just been revealed as the cover car for The Crew: Motorfest. We see clips of Spa Francorchamps, Le Mans and Suzuka in beautiful detail, in various conditions and at various times of day. Officially-announced circuits also include Kyalami, Silverstone, VIR and many more.

There’s potential here for Forza Motorsport 2023 to be a very good game – it ought to be given that under normal circumstances in the time we’ve waited, we’d have seen two entries and be on the way to a third by now – but we’ve been fooled by trailers before. We look forward to its October 10 release to find out.
