There was never absolute certainty on the status of the Glickenhaus 007 hypercar programme and its continued campaign in the WEC. Jim Glickenhaus has always been candid about the precarious financial status of the undertaking for what is a small operation but happily, the SCG 007 is now confirmed for the full 2023 calendar.
Not only will the independent American outfit be campaigning one car in the WEC, it’s also going for a two-car entry at Le Mans, to fill out the now bulging hypercar grid even further. The HK Motorcars-owned #709 car – last year’s Le Mans podium-finisher – will line up alongside #708, should the team’s request be approved.
“Glickenhaus Racing is pleased to announce that we will be entering 708 in the WEC and our Dealer and Partner HK Motorcars 709 as a second entry at Le Mans.” the outfit announced in a Tweet.
“We look forward to Sebring.”
The SCG 007 pair will be joining a quartet of Porsche 963s, two Ferrari 499Ps (with driver rosters just announced) and two Peugeot 9X8s, alongside entries from Toyota, Cadillac and more at Le Mans in 2023. Jim Glickenhaus has been vocal before about looking forward to more competitors joining the fray, especially Ferrari. This year, he gets his wish. The sharp end of the grid is the most packed it’s been in over a generation and we can’t wait to see what unfolds.
