When Ken Block left ford at the beginning of 2021, marked by a very fitting goodbye video from Ford, we wondered where he might end up. At last, we know: the original Gymkhana hero as joined Audi.
Yes, the man who made Gymkhana famous and amassed billions of video views over more than a decade, has joined the German brand that, he says, “ignited my passion for motorsport”, having seen the Audi Sport Quattro S1 monster Pikes Peak in the late 1980s.
After years of shredding tyres with ridiculously-powered, custom-built Fiestas and Mustangs, and having started out with a Subaru WRX with the first Gymkhana film, how loud his future videos will be remain is unclear, as Block says: “I see the electric car as a leap forward for us as a society in order to create something that can not only reduce emissions and hopefully make the planet a better place. But not only that: it’s also about performance. I love anything that makes me go faster. Electric cars can do that. And as far as sound goes, I have kids who don’t care about that. They think that the sound of electric cars is just as cool as the sound of internal combustion engines.”
According to Audi, Ken Block will be working with the company exclusively in the field of electric mobility with immediate effect. We can only hope there’s a Gymkhana RS e-tron GT in the works…
