Lamborghini’s LMDh car will be a V8

Lamborghini Squadra Corse has given us its first tease of its hotly anticipated LMDh prototype entry, which will see action both in IMSA and the WEC, from Daytona to Le Mans. The teaser is almost entirely predictable, for what we’ve been told so far about the car.

It’s very ‘LMDh’ as we’ve come to know it so far. The chassis has been built by Ligier, and the car features a slim central cockpit, a wide snout and a recognisable manufacturer signature pasted on the nose. In the case of the Lamborghini, it’s the Y-shaped day-running lights. First seen, at this size at least, on the Sian hybrid hypercar, this signature is expected to carry over onto the rest of Lamborghini’s range in the coming years, starting with the Aventador’s successor next year.

In terms of what’s underneath the snout of the racer, it’s expected the Lamborghini LMDh car will use a twin-turbo V8 engine in tandem with the prescribed hybrid system. That’s not to say it’ll be the same V8 that Porsche is using in the 963, Lamborghini is developing its own internal combustion engine. In terms of dimensions and figures, the car will be as large and as light as the rules allow.
