Lotus has revealed the Evija X, a hardcore track-only record-chasing version of its all-electric hypercar. Designed as a one-off technical showcase and not a car customers can technically buy, this incredible machine has to its name a 6min 24sec Nürburgring lap time.
That makes it the third fastest non-homologated racing car ever around the ‘Ring, behind the Volkswagen ID.R (6:05) and the Porsche 919 Evo (5:19), which is the current record-holder.
What this does make the Evija X, according to Lotus, is the fastest car around the Nürburgring with a production car chassis. It’s also claimed that this is only the beginning, given the time was set in less-than-optimal damp October conditions.
In terms of changes to the Evija X over the standard road-going hypercar, the most visually obvious is the ultra-extreme aero package which looks more Pikes Peak than Nürburgring. An enormous, jutting splitter and canards adorn the front, while a truly gargantuan wing (with DRS) hangs off the rear end, above a surprisingly minimal diffuser.
The Evija X also gets openings over the top of its front wheels to evacuate turbulent air, as well as revised side skirts. The suspension and carbon brakes are also all-new, while special Pirelli race tyres shod the wheels.
Power-wise, the four-piece accompaniment of electric motors remains, delivering a sturdy 2,000PS (1,470kW) at full chat. No word on how much flat-out Nürburgring time the 70kWh battery affords the Evija X…
