2023 F1 Academy champion Marta García has taken her first victory in just her second race in the Ligier European Series. She took the chequered flag in the JS2 R class at Spa-Francorchamps after showcasing some searing pace all weekend.
It was announced a week earlier that García would be racing in the Ligier series with Iron Dames in partnership with Yvan Muller’s M Racing team, and she arrived in Spa with just a single day of testing under her belt. Iron Dames is best known for its efforts in the World Endurance Championship, and this is the first step on a ladder that could one day lead her there.
Her victory in race two was hard fought as she battled with the established drivers in the field, taking the lead with a little over six minutes to go and holding on to win on exhausted tyres by just 0.2 seconds.
It rounded off a stellar weekend for the Spaniard as she was consistently the fastest driver on the track. She was forced to tear through the field in race one after getting impeded by a spinning JS P4 car at La Source, fighting her way back into contention for victory to finish second on the road before a 30-second penalty for track limits infringements relegated her to fifth in class.
Garcia is expected to complete the rest of the season in the Ligier European Series alongside her efforts in the Formula Regional European Championship as she continues to build her relationship with Iron Dames.
