Former MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo will race a 911 GT3 Cup in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia in 2022.
The Spanish racer enjoyed a successful career on two wheels, where he won three MotoGP world championships, in 2010, 2012 and 2015, during a nine-year stint with Yamaha. He retired from motorcycle racing in 2019 after less successful partnerships with Ducati and Honda.
Now he is set to make the switch to four wheels, much like his long-time MotoGP rival Valentino Rossi who recently made his debut in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe.
Lorenzo has been confirmed as a regular competitor in the Italia series driving a 911 GT3 Cup. He will also make a guest appearance at the Porsche Super Cup season opener at Imola on 24th April.
“A new and exciting stage of my life begins,” Lorenzo said. “I want to thank the Q8 Hi Perform team for welcoming me and choosing me as an official driver for the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy. I am eager to get involved and prove that I can also be competitive on four wheels.”
