New Nissan Z GT4 is ready to race in 2023
The next evolution of the new Nissan Z is here, with the Japanese marque following in the grassroots motorsport footsteps of many of the Z’s key rivals. Liveried up and lathered in aero frippery, this is the new Nissan Nismo Z GT4.
Like the Toyota Supra and Alpine A110 GT4, the Nissan Z GT4 doesn’t betray its production car origins as some past Nismo road cars do. This is recognisably the Z, with the original’s body graphics carrying over. They are added to by the enormous dive planes, splitter, side skits and rear wing. Also of note, especially for lovers of old-school Japanese sportscar design, the single-exit exhaust.
Does the GT4 tell us anything about what to expect from a potential future Nismo Z road car? Judging by how different the old Nismo 370 looked, not really. We expect a lot more visual drama from the road car, though not too much given Nissan’s new minimalist design language.
Obviously race-spec goes beyond simply adding aero. Nismo has tickled the VR30DDTT twin-turbo V6 engine, installed adjustable motorsport-spec suspension, stripped the cabin and fitted regulation-spec seats, harnesses fire suppression and roll cage. More details are to be revealed, when the car has its in-person reveal at the SEMA show in November, with deliveries expected to begin in 2023.
