The FIA has just announced that Season Eight of the World Endurance Championship 2019 to 2020, interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, will resume in August, all things being well.

Championship leaders, with five races run, are the Toyota Gazoo Racing trio of Jose Maria Lopez, Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi. A second Toyota team of Brendan Hartley, Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi is just five points behind them while third place Rebellaion Racing’s Bruno Senna, Normal Nato and Gustavo Menezes are 13 points further adrift.

The first race back, coronavirus permitting, will be the TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 15th August, traditionally run as a warm up to Le Mans. The great race itself will now take place from 19th to 20th September before the season concludes with the 8 Hours of Bahrain on 21st November.

Season Nine, originally planned for 2020 into 2021 is now not likely to begin until March of next year.
