Out of anyone you would expect a curious take on the restomod theme from Hoonigan and Travis Pastrana. These guys aren’t in the business of building million-dollar cars destined for the most exclusive collections in the world. They need a missile-spec restomod. So here’s the next Gymkhana challenger due to go out filming later this year, a 1983 Subaru GL Wagon.
This carbon-bodied wild wagon follows in the tyretracks of the incredible 860PS-plus (633kW) WRX STI that Pastrana brought to the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in 2021. So we can expect the GL will match that power figure at the very least. The stock GL in its day had a humble 53PS (39kW) to play with, so this 18-fold increase should no doubt yield some significant performance improvements.
More details are to come but we’re excited to see what hides under the blistered carbon body and widened arches. How much do you want to see this thing attack the Goodwood Hill?
