Is there a sequence of corners in motorsport more thrilling than Eau Rouge and Raidillon? It’s the most famous part of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, renowned for the challenge it presents to drivers – the elevation and flat-out speed all through a blind corner, you could watch the racing from that solitary spot over and over again.
And that’s precisely what today’s clip allows you to do. Three minutes of pure Raidillon action from the most recent race of the World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, back in May.
This endurance race has a one-hundred-year history; the event was first held in Belgium in 1924 as a 24-hour race and made up part of the inaugural World Sports Car championship in 1953. The first race in the six-hour lineage, the Coupe de Spa, was held that same year. After various pauses and incarnations, the WEC race as it is today was first held in 2012.
Hertz Team Jota’s Callum Ilott and Will Stevens claimed victory at this year’s 6 Hours of Spa in their Porsche 963, and this clip affords you the best seat in the house to see this car and its competitors conquer Raidillon. It’s a clip that feels hypnotic by its repetition, as these endurance titans roar past one after another.
So, before we fully turn our attention to Le Mans, let's bask in this Belgian glory for a little while longer.
