The worst thing that ever happened to the World Endurance Championship was when the Corvette team switched to the mid-engined, flat-plane C8 version. We lost one of the greatest sounds the world of motorsport had ever had.
But, there was a saviour in place. Cadillac decided to bring its V-Series.R over the Atlantic to race in the global series. With it came its 5.5-litre V8 engine, and more importantly, the incredible noise that it made. Not quite as loud as the NASCAR G56 car, but with a sweater, much more sonorous sound.
Now, there’s going to be an Evo version, and the worry when you hear that is that as with every passing year racing cars are getting quieter and more efficient, the Cadi will lose its song. Thankfully this video of it testing at future WEC track Imola shows that it’s still just as wonderfully V8-ey.
