After the creation of Formula 1 in the 1950s, so many other ‘formulas’ have joined the fray over the years. Formula 2 of course, Formula 3, Formula 3000 and Formula 5000. More recently, the naming convention has been taken for the US-based drift series, Formula Drift. What’s the weirdest ‘formula’ race series, though? Formula Truck is probably about as far from F1 as motorsport can get, without leaving the black stuff and taking to the sand, skies or seas. It is motorsport nonetheless, and it's awesome, especially when riding onboard…
That’s exactly what we’re doing in today’s video, as we take to the track with Rafael Hahn Fleck, a Brazilian truck racer in Formula Truck. As he and his competitors cross the line, it’s absolutely surreal to see him sitting up so high, among these absolute monsters, as they gird their giant turbocharged diesel engines, belch out smoke and get going. Have you ever heard quite so much turbo noise in a race vehicle? What utter monsters these things are.
Awesome though they may be, we can’t see us putting on a race for them at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport any time soon. If for no other reason than the fact they won’t fit in the paddocks, let alone the pits…
