Monza, the temple of speed. Given we preside over a similarly themed Festival here at Goodwood, Monza is a circuit close to our hearts, with incredible history and quite literally a layout that pushes cars of all shapes, sizes, classes and performance levels to their absolute limits. The car we’re looking at today is very much at the elite level. It’s the monstrous Cadillac V-Series R LMDh. Good Christ, does this car with its 5.5-litre naturally-aspirated V8 bring the Asgardian thunder.
Monza is all braking zones and acceleration zones, with sweeping switchbacks in the interim, so we get the big Caddi fully opening its lungs on the exits, as well as banging through the gears on the run down for corner entries. It’s the kind of internal combustion music that Monza is so famous for providing to passionate attendees.
The car is going properly flat-out too, given this is no test session. This is footage from the 6 Hours of Monza, so we see the car in the heat of battle with Porsche 963s, Ferrari 499Ps and more. Cadillac hasn’t had the best luck so far during this 2023 endurance season, but this is a car that has potential with development, and surely is one of the best-sounding of the Hypercar field.
