We wouldn’t put Norris in the same category as today’s driver, but he certainly illustrates the point as he stalls his TVR Vixen on the line at Croft, going from P9 to dead-last P21 faster than you can say “will this ever start.”
Tricky to start the TVR may be, but once it gets an air-fuel mixture in its lungs and a spark to ignite it, no one can argue that it isn’t quick. It’s already picked off the first backmarker not much more than a minute after the botched start and has another TVR looming large in its sights, which is passed like it's running in reverse.
That sets the tone for the rest of the race, as our heroic driver hauls his steer back to an impressive P8 finish tussling to the end with a Lotus Elan.
