We said it in the title, we’ll say it again now, is the North West 200 really the best motorcycle race on the planet?
We would understand why the Isle of Man TT would be the obvious choice, given the speed and breadth of that particular contest. But the fact that the North West 200 is a mass grid start, for us, just seems to put that extra level of heart-raising awesomeness into the mix.
Here we’re riding onboard with Lukas Maurer as he takes part in this year’s 200, a race that very nearly didn’t take place, for reasons you can read about here. Thankfully, that near disaster was averted, so we get to see this kind of wheel-to-wheel superbike dicing once more.
Wearing a helmet cam gives a wonderful perspective on not only how amazing this race around a triangle of tarmac in Northern Ireland, but how incredible popular it remains. Crowds line the track some just behind barriers, others in the impressive grandstands, and the whole thing just makes you wish you could have been there. Oh, and just to add some extra delight the late Spring sun is beginning to set as we continue to race.
Better than the TT? You decide.
