Not many parents are comfortable to let their teenage kids behind the wheel, even once they’re old enough to get a learner’s licence. So what dad would be cool enough to let his 13-year-old daughter behind the wheel of his 355PS drift-prepped Mk2 Ford Escort and teach her to do doughnuts?
The clue’s in the car of course; the supercool dad is Ken Block and in his latest video he teaches his daughter Lia – already an accomplished UTV racer – the fine arts of clutch and throttle control, not to mention sequential gearboxes and drift handbrakes.
In what looks like an awesome day of father-daughter bonding, Block and Lia have a huge tarmac apron at the Utah Motorsports Campus to play on, progressing to handbrake turns and precision doughnuts round a traffic cone. Anyone who has taught their offspring to drive will be very impressed at Block’s relaxed patience and unstinting enthusiasm while prospective drifters may pick up a few tips.
Lia even tells her dad, “I have so much more respect for you know.” And what parent has ever heard that halfway through a driving lesson? Looks like Lia might be a chip off the old Block (sorry, I had to).
