We’re peculiar creatures. While other warm-blooded beasts spend their lives steering clear of danger we find ourselves courting it just for the thrill. Anything involving speed we just can’t get enough of – the less control the better.
Of course, it would be reductive to say a pro rally driver hasn’t got control when tumbling through the snowy wastes of SS8 during Rally Sweden but, to the amateur onlooker, it’s finely controlled chaos. Such is the prodigious capability of Hayden Paddon on the white slippery stuff that he can slingshot his Hyundai through the snow-clad forests at such a rate, bathing the trees and drifts in its crisp jutting high beams and anyone in its wake in aero-whipped rooster tails of snow.
