Have you ever trusted someone to see you back into a parking spot where you’re otherwise blind? It’s pretty tricky, right? Now how about a convoluted cone course, completed blindfolded, with only the guidance of your significant other, or co-driver perhaps? Things starting to sound a little more… complicated?
Welcome to Hyundai’s Blindfold Challenge. The South Korean manufacturer’s motorsport division challenged 2019 WRC champion Ott Tänak to make his way around a miniature tarmac rally stage using only the instructions of his co-driver Martin Järveoja. With the Estonian rally duo having driven together since 2017, you’d hope that Tänak trusts Järveoja’s guidance implicitly, but the course’s jumps, watersplash and tight bends are sufficient to put that through the test.
After a few disorientating spins for good measure, Järveoja guides Tänak into the new Hyundai i30 N, and the pair set off. Place your bets now for the number of cones knocked down…
