We’re all very familiar with the Aston Martin Valkyrie now, the car that came from a tie-up between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing, and therefore Adrian Newey, and is essentially a lightweight, high-revving V12-powered downforce monster that’s entirely road legal. But what if that wasn’t enough for you? Then you’d need this, the Valkyrie AMR Pro, and goodness gracious would you just listen to the noise it makes.
The Valkyrie AMR Pro is all about track performance, so the hooligan of a powerplant that is the hybridised Cosworth-developed 6.5-litre V12 has had its electric elements removed, with power down, from 1,176PS (865kW) to 1,014PS (746kW). While that might sound a bit odd, taking power away, everything else about the car is more extreme. The wheelbase is 380mm longer, the front track 96mm wider, the rear track 115mm wider. The more aggressive aerodynamic package, including an even more extreme floor, front splitter and rear wing, has added 266mm of length. The result, says Aston Martin, is twice the downforce of the Valkyrie and up to 3G of lateral acceleration. Everything else has been overhauled, too, but importantly the V12 engine still revs to a mind-blowing 11,100rpm, as you can hear in this video from Laguna Seca. Thirty years ago you would have needed a name like Mansell or Prost to hear an engine like that screaming away over your shoulder, but today all you need is cash and an empty racetrack. Oh, and a noisy day at said racetrack, because there are plenty of tracks around the world where the AMR Pro will smash through sound limits.
If we put the noise to one side for a moment, the way the Valkyrie AMR Pro changes direction through the Corkscrew is frighteningly good, and going through the faster direction changes of turn six in particular it looks as though it’s glued to the track surface. The want is strong with this one.
