The Hill here at Goodwood is short and unforgiving with the very best drivers and cars able to cover its 1.16 miles in significantly less than a minute as long as they are millimetre perfect along its entire length.
This Hillclimb course is something very different but no less daunting even though it is run over a lengthy 12 kilometres. The Bologna Raticosa is run on the same layout as the legendary Coppa della Consuma, one of Italy’s original motorsport events, dating back to 1902. Nowadays generally run as an historic event, the organisers do allow a handful of more modern machines to run during the event which is where this Radical comes in.
One of the first cars to come flying out of the Radical factory the 1100 Clubsport is powered by a Kawasaki ZZR1100 engine producing 145PS and driving the rear wheels through a sequential manual gearbox. With only 420kg to propel and some decent aero kit, the Radical looks seriously swift up the sinuous course. Enjoy this on board view and marvel at how much fun can be had in the simplest, lightest machines in the right setting.
