Rally Sweden kicks off tomorrow, and will once again see many of the world’s most skilful drivers wend their way between the snow drifts in what is one of the most distinct rallies on the calendar. But tomorrow is too long to wait for us, so we’re indulging in some of the best bits of last year’s event.
Watching these rally heroes is always a treat, but there’s something special about rally action in the snow. It’s a similar dynamic to watching Formula 1 at Monaco. The majority of Rally Sweden is lined with three-foot high snow drifts that tend to cause a huge amount of damage when hit at speed, so the added challenge for the drivers to try and keep these aggressive cars inside the limits is fascinating.
And yet, despite the impending peril, they still seem to be travelling at speeds way beyond the believable. It’s just incredible car control, and we can’t get enough of it.
