Dumas manages to clear the course during the 102nd running of the event in 8 minutes and 53 seconds. Though he reaches the top of the mountain in a leading time, he describes the run as "very difficult." They had some technical issues with a power failure part-way up which meant that 26 seconds were added to the run while he reset the truck.
Once Dumas does get underway, the speed is difficult to comprehend, with a look to it as if the film is on fast-forward. The individual trees almost blur into one green splodge at the fastest moments of the run.
“I’m honored to achieve this victory with Ford Performance at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb,” Dumas said.
“Everything about this event is a challenge because it is unlike any other form of racing, you only have one shot. We faced a challenge early on but that only gave me more determination to make up the lost time in the rest of the run.”
