It’s America’s premier open-wheel racing series, and the races are wild. Think single-seaters on steroids, with a handful of American attitude thrown in, and you’ve got IndyCar.
In 2019, millions of fans across the globe tuned in to the 17-race season, with 36 drivers across 12 teams battling it out on a mixture of oval, infield and street circuits. And as with every high-speed racing series, there’s going to be shunts, crashes and dozens of nail-biting near misses.
While the racing action is incredible, sometimes it’s these wild saves which are the most impressive displays of driver talent, which is why condensing down a season of madness into one two-minute video is so interesting.
There are snap-oversteer saves, with as much lock as an IndyCar will offer, and near-misses that in IndyCar so often see multiple cars get tangled from a single driver’s mistake. If you’ve ever wondered why IndyCar drivers have spotters dotted around the track’s perimeter, radioing in what trouble may lie ahead, wonder no more – there are a number of instances here that would have seen one driver t-boned were it not for the clear direction from a spotter.
