Video: The 1,600PS monster that drives on water

Many forms of motorsport claim to be the most 'extreme' but we think Formula Offroad has a good shot at that particular title, particularly in its home country of Iceland.

That's where we find Gudbjørn Grimsson and his 1,600PS, twin-turbo monster doing things that seem to defy physics among the black volcanic sand of Iceland. In what looks like a Caterham that's been on a serious course of steroids, Grimsson climbs near vertical banks and roars through knee deep mud with barely a pause, throwing up huge rooster tails behind him.

As a party trick Grimsson then tackles a 1,000-foot stretch of open water, the huge paddle tyres allowing the car to skip across the surface like an automotive Jesus. Formula Offroad even has a street legal class, so if you need us, we'll be researching mud tyres.
