We can only imagine what it feels like to drive an IndyCar, let alone take the race start in the Indy 500. That is why onboard videos like this are completely spellbinding.
This weekend it’ll be the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, the first oval race since the 2021 Indy 500. With that in mind we thought we’d take a look back at that race with these stunning onboards from lap one. In all honesty, we’re in awe. How 33 drivers can steam into a left-hand corner at 200mph, with complete trust in the drivers around them when on relatively cold tyres, is beyond us.
It’s amazing to see Colton Herta’s view, sandwiched between six-time IndyCar champ Scott Dixon and Rinus Veekay on the front row at the start. It’s more impressive, still, to see the race’s eventual winner, four-time Indy 500 champion Hélio Castroneves, make a bold move around the outside of current championship leader Alex Palou and the 2014 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay in one decisive move. What a fantastic race it was.
