A furious rally car, a cloud of dust and rugged scenery stretchy as far as the eye can see. But what’s wrong with this scene? Well, there’s a distinct lack of noise, it would appear. For this isn’t just any old furious rally car. It’s not even a Marks and Spencer furious rally car. No, this is the Paddon Rallysport Hyundai Kona EV Rallycar, and this is its world gravel debut.
Officially known as the ZEVRC1, the Kona puts out nearly 1,100PS (800kW) of all-electric power and if this video is anything to go by, it can certainly hold its own on the piste. In fact, that output has to be restricted by almost half to match its internal combustion competition – competition its New Zealand creators hope to be smashing by next year.
Sit back and enjoy the incredible action, accompanied only by the sound of tyres sliding across dirt and the slightest electric whine. However, as pure as this may be, the developers promise that noise is coming, though in what form that will be, we don’t know…
