When is an Audi R8 not an Audi R8? When it’s this thing, the SBR Chrono, which in the words of the owner, is ‘very loosely based on the side silhouette of an Audi R8’. To look at it, we’d struggle to give it that. Weighing less than a tonne it’s literally on mass, around two thirds of an R8 and as such, enjoys over 750PS per tonne thanks to its tuned twin-turbo RS6 V8.
Underneath, features a carbon tub, a carbon and alloy subframe upfront with centrally-mounted suspension. With the nose on it, it’s more sports prototype than road-going supercar, with everything from the R8 gone. In its place two giant wings – one a splitter across the bottom and another above the crash structure. It doesn’t even have lights... The side again is just slashes and holes more akin to a prototype racer than road car. At the back an entire rear-spanning wing, side-to-side, top-to-bottom, with no lights and only the basic shape of the R8’s bottom remaining. Its pace is as terrifying as it is to look at, though by the looks of it the driver has a decent handle on its wayward ways.
