Electrified cars sound rubbish right? It takes away all the fun, the great noise from a car, especially competition cars. What if we told you we could show you an electrified car that sounds as good as the original?
Well, here let us present the new Toyota GR Yaris WRC. The first car to the new hybridised Rally1 regulations that the Japanese brand has built. And, well, it sounds absolutely awesome. If anything it might sound louder than the current WRC cars, and those are pretty darned sonorous, even from their little 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines.
The new cars are from-the-ground built rally cars to save money, effectively ending the homologation special, for which we can be sad, but they also sound and look great, for which we should be glad.
This is the latest Yaris out for some testing with Finn Juho Hânninen at the wheel. It’s very disguised under camo, but you can still tell it’s a GR Yaris shape and while it will develop, it sounds great.
Perhaps the future of racing isn’t in the ditch.
