Video: This BMW Z4 GT3’s downshifts are louder than thunder
What’s sleek, black and growls like thunder? No, it’s not a black panther – it’s this BMW Z4 GT3 race car, complete with protruding arches and a huge wing.
In this video, shared to YouTube by Belgium Car Channel back in 2015, the furious V8 can be seen warming up in the garage before heading out on the Circuit Zolder, in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, in testing for that year’s season.
Four kilometres (2.9 miles) of damp, undulating tarmac await the driver, who quickly starts putting the mean machine through its paces. And putting our ears through their paces.
The noise is Biblical. Listen as it screams into the straights, cracking and popping as the driver downshifts into corners – if you needed a reminder of exactly what’s great about shoutey V8s, this is it.
If only all BMW Z4s had naturally-aspirated, 4.3-litre V8s…
