What’s the ideal car for cruising down the long straights of Monza? Are you thinking about a Ferrari? Some kind of high-powered sportscar, probably Italian or, at a push, German?
Well, you’re all wrong. As this video will show it’s actually a Subaru Impreza. In this case one with a sequential gearbox, a massive gear indicator and, apparently 745PS (551kW) on tap.
And it sounds like it has 750PS too. Not in a growly, rumbling big engine sort of way, but in a rasping, sucking all the air away from any passing wildlife kind of way.
As this Subaru goes along it passes Porsches, McLarens and various specially made track cars as if they stand still. And it’s not even that good in the corners, the drive seems to need to tiptoe around the Lesmos, and isn’t exactly attacking the Ascari chicane much harder than any of the other cars. But get on the straights and it’ll go like absolute stink.
At one point before he lifts off very early for the first chicane the speedo hits 260km/h, and then passes it…
