What could you do in a minute? Brush your teeth, perhaps, or make a coffee? Or maybe read 250 words from your favourite book, or speak 130? Or you could watch James Hinchcliffe dash from 32nd to 11th place during the sixth round of the 2019 IndyCar Series. That sounds like a good option.
Although the Canadian driver didn’t manage that feat in a minute, he did over the course of the 2019 Indianapolis 500, and happily IndyCar has condensed his run through the field into a minute long video. Overtaking 21 drivers during the 200-lap, 500-mile race is brilliant enough, but what made the feat more impressive is that it came just one year after Hinchcliffe was bumped from the Indy 500 starting grid, failing to qualify for the first time in his career.
Racing with the recently renamed Arrow McLaren SP, Hinchcliffe made a dash for victory in the single seater series, overtaking 21 cars to finish within the top 15. During his final overtake, the 32-year-old very narrowly avoided becoming a casualty of another car’s crash, driving into a cloud of white smoke and swerving at the last minute to avoid a three car pile-up unfolding in front of him.
What a drive.
