Toyota has big plans for the Tokyo Auto Salon next week (14th-16th January) with two big reveals in the books. The first, what Toyota is calling a ‘fully tuned’ GR Yaris and the second, the Gazoo Racing GR GT3 Concept. Step aside, autonomous pods of CES. Let’s be hearing about these mad Toyotas.
Both are a celebration of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s illustrious exploits in motorsport to date. So what constitutes a ‘fully tuned’ GR Yaris in the eyes of the global motor corporation that builds it? We’ll find out in full next week but for now, a dark foreboding image shows a GR Yaris ensconced in shadow, with little to glean beyond a new bonnet vent and a new wing.
The GT3 car is a bit more of a mystery. From what we can see, there’s no relation to the Supra. There’s no relation to anything yet seen from Toyota. In fact, it looks more like an AMG GT, with a big wing, broad shoulders and hefty ventilation. Yes, if GR are really thinking of going GT3 racing, whatever this is will require a roadgoing variant. We’re as confused as you are and we’ll keep you posted…
