Land Rover has announced that the next Range Rover will be revealed on 26th October and released the first teaser image. This will be the fifth generation Range Rover, succeeding the L405 fourth-generation model that was first introduced way back in 2012.
Not an awful lot is known about the upcoming model so far. It’s expected that it will carry over derivations of some of the outgoing models engines, with a greater emphasis on hybridisation and electrification going forward.
What is expected is that the Range Rover will move still-further upmarket in a bid to defend its position against the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, both introduced during the L405’s tenure. The new Range Rover could also be the first Land Rover product coming down the line to see returns on CEO Thierry Bolloré’s promises of a reliability and quality crackdown. This is hoped to be a better-built, more dependable Range Rover.
In terms of styling, expect an evolution rather than a revolution. The outgoing model has aged very well in its nine-year run and still looks modern today, by contrast to the L322 which was looking dated, if still handsome, come time for its replacement.
Judging by this teaser image, the new car keeps broadly the same proportions, glasshouse-to-body ratio and the iconic ‘floating roof’ as the outgoing car, with a development of the current Land Rover design language. If it harnesses and revamps the current model’s perfect blend of stately and contemporary, they’ll be on to a winner.
