As if Apollo hadn’t already killed the outrageous hypercar game, it’s gone and outdone itself with its latest reveal at the International Import Expo in Shanghai. This is the Apollo Evo, the IE’s slashed, be-winged, arachnid-like extra-terrestrial-looking successor.
Apollo describe Project Evo as a “dramatically sculpted piece of design that continues to offer an intense and emotional visual experience”. Intense is the right word. This thing is a latticework of louvres, ducts, openings and winglets, to a dramatic and we think actually quite enjoyable effect.
There is rhyme and reason to the looks, even if you can’t quite put your finger on where it is. Distinctive Apollo design traits that carry over from the IE include the triple exhaust setup, with more conventional round tips on the Evo and spindly tendon-like lighting.
Underpinning the Evo is a carbon monocoque chassis that’s not explicitly claimed to be related or unrelated to the one used in the IE and subsequently, the De Tomaso P72. All that’s said of the powerplant is that it’s naturally aspirated, like the IE, which was all but confirmed to use a derivation of the F140 Ferrari V12. The motor is said by Apollo “to deliver raw power and a visceral mechanical soundtrack unavailable elsewhere in the contemporary and historical hypercar world”. Quite the claim in a climate of Pagani Huayra Rs, Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s and Aston Martin Valkyries. If it sounds anything like the IE, the Evo will be an absolute screamer and surely a future show-stopper at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.
Much has yet to be divulged on this car but we can safely assume the price will be high, build numbers will be low and the performance will be impressive. More as we have it. For now, just look at the thing!
