Back in the original golden age of Brough Superior, the Nottingham manufacturer’s models were dubbed the ‘Rolls Royce of Motorcycles’, due to their build quality and beauty akin to that of the quintessential British manufacturer.
And 100 years after the original Brough began, the modern incarnation of the manufacturer has teamed up with another home-grown icon – Aston Martin Lagonda – to create a rather special motorcycle.
Due to debut at next month’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, this will be the first two-wheeled model ever to officially bear the Aston Martin wings, with Brough Superior CEO Thierry Henriette and Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman joining forces to create the model.
Few details, bar of the bike have been revealed, a sketch outline, but it will likely boast many of the two manufacturer’s shared attributes – exclusivity, high-quality materials and an even higher price tag – the modern Brough Superior SS100 starts £1 shy of £60,000.
The original Brough Superior was born in 1919, and came to a premature end when the manufacturing facility was requisitioned for the Second World War effort. In 2013, now-CEO Henriette joined forces with entrepreneur and vintage motorcycle enthusiast Mark Upham in reviving the brand.
The Frenchman commented: “Aston Martin and Brough Superior are two luxury automotive manufacturers sharing the same passion for exclusive design and performance, the idea of developing a motorcycle in a frame of a close partnership came naturally.”
Meanwhile, Aston Martin was founded in 1913, and came together with Lagonda (est. 1899) in 1947 when both were purchased by the late Sir David Brown.
Reichman added: “This is a fascinating and very popular project for myself and my team. The opportunity to collaborate with Brough Superior has given us the chance to bring our own unique views on how beauty and engineering can combine to create a highly emotive piece of vehicle design. We’re excited about the end result and can’t wait to see the reaction the motorcycle receives when it is revealed next year.”
