Audi has built the last ever TT

The car was a grey TTS and was completed on the 10^th of November 2023, which as the image shows is 25 years, eight months and three weeks since the very first left the line.

Though it feels like a premature loss, it’s worth noting that the third-generation TT has been with us now for nine years which is more than a third of the life of the TT model as a whole. Introduced in 2014, it replaced the second generation which was first introduced in 2006. That car took over from the iconic first-generation car once it finished its own eight-year term.

Was the TT ever a truly great sportscar? Probably not. To driving enthusiasts it never quite shook off its humble VW Golf underpinnings. It was always a style statement and a high-quality item, but far from the Boxster and Cayman rival many hoped it would eventually become.

The first-generation TT was an instant style icon and served – Golf underpinnings and all – as a defacto halo model for the brand that supercharged Audi’s image revolution. Unsurprising then that more than a third of TTs made were the first generation, with production ending at just under 270,000.

The UK has always proved to be a hugely important market for the Audi TT, with the model having proved popular even in 2022. The 2,672 cars it sold here last year made up more than a third of total TT sales in that period. All in, over 157,000 Audi TTs have been sold in the UK since the original’s launch in 1998, which is just under a quarter of TTs sold globally.

So it should come as no surprise then that something in the image of the TT will return one day, though whatever is to come isn’t likely to be a coupe named TT. It’ll certainly be all-electric, that’s for sure.
