Ignore the laborious name: this is possibly the best looking car at Geneva this year, and highlights BMW’s next ultimate flagship model: the stonking M8.
Those of us who hero-worshipped the original 8-Series were thrilled to bits when BMW announced its return with the concept shown at Goodwood Festival of Speed last summer, in the Stable Yard. It was an astonishing reimagining of the seminal coupe, and the M8 Gran Coupe displayed at Geneva exemplifies that design.
“The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is designed to stir things up, to polarise”, said BMW’s vice president of design, Domagoj Dukec. The car is low and broad, with short overhangs at the rear. The air intakes are cast in carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).
At the rear, there are flared wheel arches, a spoiler, black glass on the taillights, a prominent diffuser and two sets of M-badge twin exhausts.
The 8-Series Gran Coupe and this M-badged version will go on sale next year.
