Chevrolet teases all-new Corvette Z06

We’re just under a month out from the full official reveal of the new C8 Corvette Z06 but apparently, Chevy just couldn’t wait. It’s let slip the first full uncamouflaged look at the new supercar.

Admittedly, it’s not the Z06 most have been looking for given that it’s the ‘standard’ car minus the aero addenda and added aggression of the Z07 pack-equipped cars often seen testing. It’s also a slightly odd raised three-quarter view in a colour that feels very much more C6 than C8. Nevertheless, this is the real deal, with a more aggressive snout, revised intake trim on the side, a lip spoiler, new wheels and we assume, a touch of added width. Looks good to us.

What’s going on underneath? Well, this car’s high-revving flat-plane crank V8 is probably the worst-kept secret in performance cars at the moment. The rumours, which have been all but confirmed, claim it’s a 5.5-litre 9,000rpm-revving naturally-aspirated DOHC V8 producing around 600PS (441kW). Minus the extra swept volume, those specs are a dead ringer for the Ferrari 458 Speciale meaning this could be a very special car indeed. And yes, if these rumoured specs are true, it will also be down on power compared to the C7 Z06 and even the C6 ZR1. It seems they’re very serious about the more European approach of pantomime over raw ponies.

The full reveal will come on October 26th but do you like what you’ve seen of the C8 Z06 so far? Could Chevrolet be giving us a swansong for traditional supercars? Let us know your thoughts...
