The convertible Maserati MC20, thought simply to be named ‘Spyder’, will be called the MC20 Cielo when it has its global reveal on the 25th May.

Why not spyder, spider or roadster, some of the more usual drop-top supercar names? Well, quite simply, because Maserati wanted to be different. Cielo translates from Italian as ‘sky’, and “highlights the fact that it is a model devoted to driving pleasure in the great outdoors,” the company has said.

All of the technical details will be confirmed at the car’s launch, but expect a folding hard top roof, rather than a fabric assembly. It’ll use the same carbon-fibre chassis as the regular MC20 but weigh more, the coupe tipping the scales at 1,475kg, while power and torque will stay the same, at 630PS (463kW) and 730Nm (538lb ft). The MC20 costs £187,230, so expect the Cielo to nudge £200,000.
