All-electric Range Rover will have V8 performance
Order books have opened for the first electric Range Rover, and Land Rover has teased more details on the car, which joins the mild and full-hybrid Range Rover range next year.
Let's get the ball rolling with the news that the EV Range Rover will rival the range-topping V8 P530 for performance – the V8 gets from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, and you can expect the EV to be even quicker in the 0-30mph dash. Power has yet to be confirmed, but with a motor on each axle, you can bet it will have plenty, and over-the-air updates will keep the powertrain fresh throughout the car's life.
You can also bet it will be good offroad. According to Land Rover, the EV Rangey will be the most capable electric SUV on sale, able to wade through water up to 850mm deep at speeds up to 31mph (though we'd wager not simultaneously). It's already undergoing offroad testing in environments stretching from the deserts of Dubai to the snowy tundras of Sweden.
The electric Range Rover is likely to reign supreme in NVH. Its maker is billing the EV as the 'quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created' thanks to its silent electric drive and active road noise cancellation.
The car sits on the same Modular Longitudinal Architecture that underpins the rest of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport range and gets 800V rapid-charge architecture that'll mean fast charging of the large battery (expect it to be at least 100kWh) from 10-80% in around 30 minutes. The electric range has yet to be confirmed, but Land Rover will include access to multiple EV charging points.
Built in Solihull alongside the rest of the range, as these teasers show, the EV Range Rover will look almost identical to its mild and full-hybrid siblings with subtle badging, a charging hatch, and, we reckon, a flush new grille being the only sign your Rangey sips from the electric cup.
