Gallery: 70 Years of Ferrari celebrated at Retromobile

14th February 2017
Gary Axon

Among the many special displays and tributes at this year’s Retromobile was a feature in Hall 3, marking the 70th anniversary of Modena’s most famous resident; Ferrari.

The nine Ferraris on display in Paris cut across the marque’s Grand Prix racers, competition models and road cars, with Ferrari’s long-standing participation in Formula 1 racing in particular represented by two exceptional Grand Prix models.

The first of these was a 1952 Tipo 500, driven by such notable drivers as Alberto Ascari, Giuseppe Farina and Mike Hawthorn, GP World Champions all. The Tipo 500 displayed in Paris took an impressive 14 Grand Prix victories and was the first of 16 Ferraris to take the F1 World Championship title. The Tipo 500 was joined by a later Tipo 156 mid-engined F1 racer.

Endurance racers featured included a 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC Spider Scaglietti, purchased new by Adrian Conan Doyle, whilst a road-going 250 LM - Ferrari’s first commercially-available mid-engined model – also shared display space with a stunning 250 California, a 250 SWB, 275 GTB and current 488.
