Hennessey might be making the most of the headlines at the moment with its sold-out Venom F5 and F5 Roadster hypercars but let’s not forget the tuning side of the business which is, if anything, even madder. Its latest creation is this, the VelociRaptor 6X6, a custom six-wheeled Ford F-150 Raptor.
Yes, they’ve bolted an extra couple of driven wheels to the already huge F-150, though that’s only the biggest visual change. Underneath there’s new Fox suspension and locking rear axles for a 50 per cent boost in tractive grip. The 20-inch wheels with 37-inch tyres will no doubt help that cause too. They also contribute to a jump in height, along with the three-inch lift kit.
It wouldn’t be Hennessey without a bump in power and as such, the EcoBoost V6 has been uprated too to the tune of 560PS (412kW) and 911Nm (672lb ft). It’s achieved this with enhanced induction, a high-capacity intercooler and upgraded engine management. There’s a stainless-steel exhaust system for improved vocals too.
There are practical considerations too. With the added length that an extra pair of driven wheels implies, there’s more load space. Precisely, 45 per cent more than a standard Raptor, up from 1.67 metres to 2.4 metres long. For the proper wilderness explorers among its buyers, there’s also a monster LED light bar in the front bumper. Does a Ferrari Purosangue have a light bar? No, it doesn’t. Speaking of the new Ferrari SUV, the Velociraptor will be about as expensive, with a starting price of £345,000 including the donor truck.
“Everything is bigger and faster in Texas and our VelociRaptor 6x6 takes this concept to the extreme,” said founder and CEO John Hennessey.
“Building on the capability, power, and presence of our VelociRaptor truck, our latest six-wheel drive offering will delight customers across the US and around the world with its power and go-anywhere abilities.”
