Here’s the new BMW M4 and M4 GT3

Yes, when you compare it to the old BMW M4, the new M4’s face is something very, very different. But you can’t blame BMW for wanting to try something different, and, regardless, having seen some onboard footage of the new M4 testing, we’re excited to drive it whatever it looks like.

According to Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW’s M Division, “both vehicles were developed parallel to each other” and will therefore be “prime examples of the technology transfer from motorsport to series production – and back again”.

Looking at the M4 road car first, it’ll be available in two versions, the standard M4 with a 480PS (353kW) twin-turbo straight-six engine and the M4 Competition with a 510PS (375kW) version of the same engine. The M4 will be available with a six-speed manual and an eight-speed auto, the M4 Competition an eight-speed auto only.

As for the M4 GT3, well there are understandably fewer details, as it’ll need to race in various serious across the world for various race lengths and with the engine in various states of tune. Fundamentally, however, it’ll have the same straight-six engine, be wider, lower and louder, and it’ll replace the M6 GT3 as the top-of-the-range BMW race car.

Both the M4 and the M4 GT3 will be unveiled in full in September. We’re rather looking forward to it.
