Honda has revealed the next generation of its five-door Civic, which will be available exclusively as a hybrid and will hit the market in August 2022.
The 11th-gen Civic will be the latest model to feature the brand’s e:HEV (hybrid-electric vehicle) powertrain, which has already proved its worth in the recently-launched Jazz and CR-V. With the hybrid HR-V due to join the line-up later this year, the manufacturer is well on its way to achieving the objective for all European mainstream models to feature electrified powertrains by 2022.
Honda claims the powertrain will offer the perfect blend of fun-to-drive performance and efficiency, with the usability and comfort for which the Civic is known.
In the handful of photos Honda has released, the new model appears to have taken on a more executive look, losing some of the sharp lines for which the current version, built in the UK, has become known. The roofline tapers abruptly into the boot and the car still sits in that awkward no man’s land between hatchback and coupe. There’s a new mesh grille too, by the looks of it.
Whether this new hybrid Civic will be as popular as its predecessors remains to be seen, but with more than 27 million units sold across 170 countries since its launch in 1972, its reputation alone should count for something.
