Polestar has revealed a hopped-up version of its Polestar 2 EV saloon. Previewed last year in prototype form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, here a year on, it’s ready to go on sale. Meet the BST edition 270. The clue is in the name, this is a limited-run car with just 270 examples making their way to markets the world over.
Power is up in the BST to 476PS (350kW) and 680Nm from the two electric motors, which are fed by a 78kWh battery. The numbers are suitably impressive, with 0-62mph taking 4.4 seconds. Chassis wise, the BST is 20 per cent stiffer and lower by a hefty 25mm with bespoke Ohlins two-way adjustable dampers with remote reservoir tech, a-la the fabulous and expensively suspended Polestar 1. Speaking of Polestar’s breakout model, there’s also a new set of 21-inch alloy wheels inspired by the six-figure special.
Happily, you’ll easily be able to tell a BST edition 270 apart from other Polestar 2s. It gets more body colour on the bumpers which in combination with those new wheels and the lower stance, adds a welcome attitude, while the Thunder and Snow exterior colours are available with an optional matte black body stripe. If you’re wanting even more aggression, a Battleship Gray satin wrap is an option too. As on the 1, there’s also tell-tale ‘Swedish gold’ on the four-piston Brembo brake calipers, shocks, valve caps and seatbelts.
So does this new flavour of all-electric sports saloon tempt you over something like a BMW i4 or even an M4? If the Polestar 1 is anything to go by, this sporting version of the 2 could be a tonic to drive. Prices are as yet unannounced, though expressions of interest are being taken on Polestar’s website. If you are interested, be quick. There aren’t many of these planned to be made. First deliveries are expected to begin towards the end of this year.
