The Ioniq 5N is getting a lot of love for being the high-performance EV critics have been waiting for but Hyundai isn't done yet. Revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon is the Hyundai Ioniq 5N NXP1 Concept, an aero-clad, matte black Ioniq 5N with attitude.

From tip to tail this thing is wearing more aggressive bodywork, with a redesigned front bumper complete with an enormous carbon splitter and side blades to kick things off. Moving down the side is a skirt complete with a vortex generator at the rear, while the back end has a totally new motorsport-esque splitter element and swan-neck wing. There are also lightweight hybrid carbon wheels. It's properly aggressive.

Under the skin there are plenty of mods too. This car features high performance brake pads and lowering springs, while on the inside there’s extra alcantara and more aggressive bucket seats.

The good news is that Hyundai plans to offer all this stuff in a new N Performance Parts catalogue this year. It doesn’t stop with hardware either, with Hyundai saying that software tuning is coming for its performance EVs in the near future.

“In 2024, Hyundai Motor Company will take a step forward as a leader in new tuning parts suitable for the high-performance EV era as demonstrated with the ‘NPX1’ concept model,” said Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group.

“Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customization such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customisation for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community.”

What do you think of the NPX1? It’s certainly aggressive and indeed, we fear, not exactly a range hero. But a commitment to fun cars as electric power takes over is something we’ll absolutely celebrate.
