BMW has revealed a concept version of its next electric car at Frankfurt, that will start to fill in the huge gap in the range between the small i3 and i8 sports car. Called the i Vision Dynamics, the concept is an electric four-door Gran Coupe.
The German premium brand says the concept’s all-electric drive train has a range of 373 miles with 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of more than 124mph. It describes the i Vision Dynamic as “a dynamic and progressive, four-door Gran Coupe” which, it says, “is electrifying the heart of the BMW brand and, at the same time, elevating BMW i into a totally new dimension”.
BMW Group, which comprises BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, has committed to 25 electrified derivations of existing models by 2025, of which 12 will be purely electric.
Sitting alongside the concept on BMW’s stand at Frankfurt is a refreshed version of the i3, with a more sporting derivative, the i3s, on offer. The latter has a higher output and “more dynamic driving qualities” according to BMW.
The i3 has been utterly dwarfed by the talk of the show for BMW, the unveiling of the gargantuan X7 SUV. Although officially a concept, the X7 iPerformance previews a planned 2018 hybrid production model to rival Land Rover’s luxury Range Rover.
